What is World Chocolate Day?

The worldwide event celebrates a very special day in history. This was when chocolate was first introduced to Europe in 1550.

Chocolate originated in Central America where the early Aztecs used the seed derived from the cacao tree as a drink. Indeed, the word "chocolate" comes from the Aztec word xocolåtl, and it was introduced to Europe via the Spanish language.

Every country celebrated its chocolate in different ways and sometimes on different dates. But July 7 has been recognised as World Chocolate Day in recent times to co-ordinate global festivities.
